An AI-enabled, well-designed future: differentiating hype from reality

Taking place from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, this seminar, moderated by Stefan Novakovic, Senior Editor at Azure Magazine and Mariah Samost Founder/CEO at Materlog will contextualizes the AI revolution, run through the current state of AI, and discuss its upcoming capabilities - all as it relates to the design industry. Practically, this will mean sharing examples to help attendees understand how they can leverage AI today.

The Evolution of West Coast Modern

Also taking place on Friday, from 11:00am-12:00pm, this talk hears three influential B.C-based architects Clinton Cuddington, Marianne Amodio, Shirley Shen, alongside the moderator Stacey McLachlan share insights surrounding their recent residential projects. Including contemporary West Coast Houses, and muse on the idea that stylistic evolutions and adaptations may be resulting in the emergence of a new regional style right here in British Columbia.

Crafting Spaces That Resonate

Join Craig Stanghetta, co-founder of hospitality brand Banda Volpi and founder/creative director of the notable design studio Ste Marie, for an engaging discussion on infusing personal character and perspective into design. In this conversation with Anika Quin Editorial Director at Western Living, they will explore how shared memory, media, archival imagery, colour theory, and materiality craft transformative spaces. Noteworthy Exhibitors

Addapt

Leckie Studio has been a premier studio in Vancouver since 2015. Addapt homes are designed for flexibility, inspired by the Japanese ‘Bento’ box concept, where housing modules can be added or reconfigured as needs evolve. We're excited to see this new innovative home design in person to be able to fully appreciate all the work that went into such an interesting concept.

Don't Forget Me

LIV Design Studio has long admired AD Projects's wonderful work. With the help of digital artist Jonny Ostrem, “Don't Forget Me" invites you into a dialogue exploring the evolving relationship between humans and AI within the realm of design. As we navigate this technological frontier, the installation reflects on our innate connection to nature—particularly the dense, forested landscapes of the West Coast that many of us call home.

Perpetua Bar

Groundbreaking Squamish based design studio Stark unveil the structure, named ‘Perpetua Bar’, made from recycled materials to create an immersive space for gathering. Open on all sides and accessed from any angle, it seeks to bring people together, blurring the line between openness and enclosure.
