“Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow, Pantone 16-1546, Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment,” Pantone announces December 5, 2018.

Warm and evocative, living coral is set to leave a mark on the design world in 2019. Say goodbye to last year’s Glam rock-ish, Ultra Violet, and hello to a happier, friendlier pinky orange.  From fashion to home décor, this punch of colour will enliven our year in ways far beyond the best sunset.  After much thoughtful consideration and trend analysis, Pantone explained, “The engaging nature of living coral “welcomes” and “encourages” lighthearted activities, and its authenticity enables connection and intimacy.”

We’ve considered these lofty goals and sought out some ways you can incorporate this life affirming colour into your life.

Tech

Google opted to introduce their Home Mini assistant in 3 colours, one of which is Living Coral. What did they know that we didn’t?  This is the perfect little helper to get your life in order. It sets reminders, catches you up on latest news headlines, finds you the closest chiropractor etc. thanks to full integration with Google Assistant.

Outdoor Living

Nothing says the tropics more than this colour, evoking exotic flora and fauna like Birds of Paradise and coral Calla lilies, making it the perfect accent colour for outdoor spaces.

From Hip Haven, this classic bullet planter in Coral features a steel tripod stand with powder-coated black finish and compression-molded fiberglass bowl. This stylish addition can be used as a planter or ice bucket – Perfect for a Palm Springs vibe.

Sunshine in your kitchen

Kitchen Aid has jumped on the Coral band wagon introducing a beautiful mixer in a muted coral colour.

A Bounce in your Step

As usual, Nike is on point, introducing 2019 Air Max with vintage Coral swoop and 2019 Air Jordan 1 High OG.

Colour your World

Whether energetic orange or a more subtle grapefruit pink, shades of coral add warmth and energy to any space. They punctuate bright whites, complement dark and cool blond woods beautifully and warm up stone and tile surfaces.

We can’t ignore the fact that Living Coral is a more energized version of the oh-so-popular Millennial Pink — which is still making its mark on the design world (and our Instagram feeds). This new, more vibrant hue appears to be a nod to women’s empowerment and #metoo (as was last year’s COY, Ultra Violet), taking the traditional soft and delicate pink that’s so often associated with women and turning it into something bolder and louder, more powerful and impactful.
